PointOfOrigin_X retains the point of origin of the admission or visit, as provided by the data source.

Two HCUP data elements contain information on the patient's point of origin:

• PointOfOriginUB04 indicates the point of origin of the patient to the hospital setting and uses the same coding as the point of origin data element on the UB-04 claim form.
• PointOfOrigin_X retains the point of origin as provided by the data source. The original values have not been recoded into uniform HCUP values and are source-specific. PointOfOrigin_X is available for all states that provide HCUP with information on point of origin.

Prior to 2007 data, information on the source of admission was coded in up to three HCUP data elements (ASOURCEUB92, ASOURCE, and ASOURCE_X). Beginning with 2007 data, PointOfOriginUB04 and PointOfOrigin_X are available if the information is provided by the HCUP data source.
