General Notes |
Prior to 2001, this data element is called SURGIDTYPE. Some data sources use more than one coding scheme for the physician identifiers stored in the MDNUM2 and encrypted in MDNUM2_S. Coding schemes include hospital-assigned numbers, State license numbers, or the Universal Physician Identification Numbers (UPIN) used by HCFA. If the data source provides the information to identify which coding scheme is used, the information is retained in MDNUMTYPE2. |
